Good Books

"A children's book read only by children is a bad children's book."
- C.S. Lewis

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

A great story told with a few words and many illustrations. I read it this summer - twice!

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

I've been a fan of Kate DiCamillo since reading The Tale of Despereaux when it came out several years ago. Edward Tulane is a story about life and love and choosing to love even though it brings pain. I read this one out loud to Chloe. We both loved it.

I'm a big fan of children's books, and the above are two of my recent favorites. What are you (or your kids) reading? What are some must reads on your list?

The Runaway Bunny picture book written by Margaret Wise Brown has always been one of favorites along with Pickles the Fire Cat.

I love childrens books! One of my favorite series is the Charlie Bone series by Jenny Nimmo. It is about a boy named Charlie Bone who discovers he has a talent to hear what people were thinking when their pictures were taken and because of this talent he is sent to a school for other "gifted" children who are called the Children of the Red King. However the masters of the school are evil and the endowed children must choose sides to either fight the evil or join the evil.

These books look great. I'm always on the lookout for good children's books, so thanks for posting them. We are still in the stage of reading Franklin the Turtle and other such exciting stories. :)
